Current Generation Transformers

Post by Wednesday Toys on Fri Apr 19, 2013 5:20 am

Two cool things in particular happening with Hasbro's line-up of Transformers.

A new Spring and Blitzwing have been announced for the 'Generations' line - you can see more pictures of them here. They look great, really returning to the colours and themes of their G1 counterparts.

And you can submit your own Transformer via a poll at the Official Transformers Website to celebrate 30 years of Transformers next year!

The great line-up of Transformers Generations toys continues - including Orion Pax! Who's that, I hear you say? That's Optimus Prime before he was Optimus Prime! They will be available in June/July 2013.

Visit the Robot Kingdom site for more details.

I love all things Transformers... but the new Japanese Transformers GO! line is making it really hard to keep my feelings aflame.

As action figures they look very plastic and... feeble, if that is the right word. Just look at their arms and thighs and you'll see what I mean. Just one wrong twist looks like it would be enough to break them!

Still, the GO! line may launch some serious-looking 'Bots at a later date to off-set these cheaper-looking toys. Like 'em or loathe 'em?

While Springer was the most popular Triple-Changer of the Autobots, there was another who stood in his shadow - Sandstorm. Images have been released of a Springer repaint that people believe will be Sandstorm, finally released again. It's nice to see the variation.

More images are surfacing of Sharkticon Megatron, villain of the Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters series. He's looking a lot better now that he's suitably monstrously painted! I'm liking him more and more now that he's not as green!

And ready to battle him is Cyberverse Prime! Check out his Autobot shield! I remain unconvinced of his colours at this stage, but I like the figure!

In Transformers news, some more pics have emerged of Takara's new gigantic Metroplex. Ever wondered how he'd stand up next to the orginal G1 version? Wonder no more, the new guy can't even fit in the same shot!

Metropex's sidekick, Scamper is also getting an upgrade!

In Transformers Generations news, test shot images of Trailcutter (ie Trailblazer from G1) have surfaced.

AND also there are a plethora of pics featuring Generations Megatron with Chopshop (who was a G1 Deluxe Insecticon), and Starscream and Waspinator. Megsie and Screamer are looking pretty good.

Nice - they look like really good figures! Are you going to give them the Ersico treatment? Or are they for your private collection?

Haha - fair enough! I hadn't considered the effort needed to get TF's up to scratch for custom paint jobs.

New images of the Deluxe line of Transformers have emerged - including a new-look Thundercracker. The original Thundercracker, along with Sideswipe, were my first ever Transformers, and this blue guy will always hold a special place in my robotic heart.

Pictures have been making the rounds of the Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters 'Abominus' combiner figure -

Admittedly he's not my cup of Transformers, but maybe I'm too much of a traditionalist.

And in other Transformers news - pictures of Sandstorm are looking great, showing off the orange Generations Voyager Scale figure.

He looks far more detailed than what I was expecting, and is a good-looking 'Bot!

Artist Ken Christiansen discusses his take on Soundwave - merging the old with the new. The Soundwave he came up with looks neat.

Pics have been released for the Air Vehicon of Transformers Prime: Beast Hunters, who has a decidedly Fall of Cybertron appearance:

And images of a coloured Trailcutter have been spotted - he's looking pretty cool, with a couple of nods to the Trailblazer of the original cartoon:

New pics have come out of the Transformers Go! line of toys. I'm still sitting on the fence over this line of toys. I like my Transformers big and lethal-looking!
More pics can be found here.

It looks like the red Transformer twin has ANOTHER brother - Tigertrack, who's a new yellow Masterpeice Lambourghini. He's essentially a Sunstreaker repaint of Sideswipe (or Lambor as his Masterpiece version is called... I think).

I don't know what to make of BotCons' exclusive Skywarp figure - he looks more like Jetfire (Skyfire) to me! Where's the black? Where's the rest of the purple? Ah well, I hope they're pleasing someone out there with this.

New Transformers bookThe Covenant of Primus is said to reveal the origin of the Primes, and features new art and a history of the Transformers including their Golden Age of exploration. Looks very tempting to this Transformers fan!

Here's a taste of what's to be included:

"The story of the ancient struggle between Primus and Unicron and the creation of the Thirteen Primes.

- Contains never-before-seen illustrations of Quintus Prime, creator of the Quintessons; Leige Maximmo; Megatronus; and Thirteen, the unnamed Prime who was created last and who brought all the Primes together.

...and Chapter 2: The Thirteen Primes prepare for their great battle against Unicron.
- Contains a never-before-seen illustration of Vector Prime and a new illustration of Unicron that was commissioned just for this book."

And it features art from the very talented Ken Christiansen.

Re: Current Generation Transformers

Post by Wednesday Toys on Fri Jun 14, 2013 5:29 am

A lot of pictures from the world of Transformers toys have been bandied around lately - here's a bit of a round-up!  Apologies for the picture-heavy post.

Now this is one BIG Transformer - in fact he's the biggest one to see production as far as I know - Metroplex. He stands about 2' tall! Here's the official box art -  That's a lot of TF love!

Takara are re-issuing their Masterpiece Soundwave - he's a deluxe figure with many points of articulation so you can pose him doing almost anything. The little Decepticon tapes look pretty awesome as well!
http://tformers.com/transformers-first-looks-at-hasbro-transformers/20306/news.html

Here's the new-look Megatron from Prime: Beast Hunters. He looks very aqautic and 'cartoony'. The jury's out on whether he looks tough or too Disney... http://tformers.com/transformers-prime-beast-hunters-voyager/20304/news.html

To celebrate 30 years of Transformers, Hasbro are releasing Trailcutter - a take on the original Trailblazer. The figure looks pretty good, as does the box art, and he comes with a comic to boot!
http://tformers.com/transformers-official-trailcutter-image-of-transformers/20308/news.html

In the States they have this cool Transformers convention, called Bot Con, which we don't have here, sadly. And they've made some Transformers to celebrate it. You may have seen some of them on the web already, but here's a shot of all the exclusive Bot Con Transformers in one place:
http://tformers.com/transformers-botcon-2013-machine-wars-termination/20313/news.html

And the last little bit of Transformers news I want to share with you now is the latest official image from the Transformers Go! line - which I have previously said I don't like at all.
I still don't like them much as they seem to plastic ...and fragile to me - HOWEVER I do like this blue lion guy. There's something about having a giant robot lion's head as a chest piece that does it for me.

A new Masterpiece Transformers recently been announced - G2 Sideswipe. This move has left fans a little bewildered, as he appears to be simply a black repaint of the original Masterpiece Sideswipe (Lambor). Still, his weapons look cool, and that G2 Autobot emblem instantly places him as a special Masterpiece figure.

There's been a bit of Transformers news lately, with two possible new releases announced.

It looks like a new Jetfire might be on the horizon, with this bad-boy spotted.  Regardless of whether it's a re-issue or a totally new figure, I hope he becomes available soon, I like what they've done with him!

Surely no-one can get enough Grimlock!  The Transformers Dinobot looks to be getting a Platinum Edition, being gold and shiny!

AND Hasbro, bro, have announced a new line of 12" (30cm for us Aussies) non-transforming Transformers.  Optimus Prime and Bumblebee have been listed for this Spring, based on their 'Prime' cartoon forms.  I don't know whether they're the same type of budget toys that you can pick up of Star Wars and Spiderman and Iron Man figures that are around, but I guess time will tell.

Pictures have been spotted of those oversized Optimus Prime and Bumblebee non-transforming Transformers.  They're big, but very lacking in detail.  Not much chop unless you want them for customisation!

Interested to see what a toy prototype looks like?  Here's the prototype for the recently released Hoist Transformers figure!

And Smokescreen from Transformers like you've never seen him before!  This is the Transformers Go! version of Smokescreen, and is nothing like his G1 counterpart.

Over at TFormers.com they've got many, many pictures of upcoming Transformer releases, such as:

Generations,  Beast Hunters, Rescue Bots, Kre-O, Construct-bots and 30th Anniversary.

Did I say there were a lot of pictures to be had?!
